It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
