Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed anger after the ex-president charged a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "traitors" and asserted they should be taken into custody and penalized "with execution" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Message That Triggered the Controversy

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in armed forces or defense positions.

"Similar to us, you all made an pledge to defend and uphold this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the brief video. "Currently, the threats to our democratic foundation don't only come from overseas, but from right here at home. Our laws are unambiguous, you can reject improper directives, you can refuse unlawful commands, you have to reject unlawful commands. No one has to follow commands that violate the law or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Angry Reply

The video message appeared to prompt a angry reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On later in the week, Trump posted on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he stated: "This is really bad, and Risky to our Country. Their statements cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Officials Answer

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Democratic leadership released a unified declaration denouncing the comments.

"Political violence has no role in America," they declared. "Elected officials who participated in the video all worked our nation with great loyalty and distinction. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's appalling and risky death threats against congressional representatives, and call on Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also said that they had been in contact with protective services "to ensure the safety of these members and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must right away delete these radical digital publications and recant his violent discourse before he gets someone killed," the declaration continued.

Lawmakers' Defiant Reaction

The lawmakers who participated in the video also released a statement.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and security experts who care for this nation and swore an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States," they stated. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we aim to keep it. No threat, coercion, or incitement will stop us from that sacred obligation."

"What's most telling is that the ex-president considers it liable to punishment by capital punishment for us to reiterate the statutes," they stated. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their support as they execute their vow to the national charter and responsibility to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "All citizens must come together and condemn the former president's calls for our execution and partisan aggression. This is a moment for principled stance."

Further Partisan Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's comments and shared on social media: "We must be absolutely clear: the President of the United States is demanding the capital punishment of government members."

He continued: "This is an direct THREAT. Every Senator, every Representative, all citizens – without partisan consideration – should censure this right away and unconditionally."

The Republican House speaker justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", commenting: "This constitutes very harmful, you have important representatives of the government telling soldiers to defy commands, I think that is without precedent in US history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources informed journalists that in what he examined of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the offense of treason" but that "lawyers have to parse the language and establish all that."

Executive Branch Statement

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a reporter, "Is the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson responded: "Certainly not."

"Let's be clear about what the former president is addressing," the spokesperson said. "We see active officials of the US Congress who worked together to organize a digital communication to personnel of the national defense, to serving soldiers urging them to ignore the president's lawful orders."

She stated: "The integrity of our defense system rests on the hierarchy, and if that chain of command is broken, it can cause casualties, it can result in disorder, and that is exactly what these members of Congress ... are basically supporting."
